Ray Brown’s seed library is a glorious collection from many distant
continents and hidden parts. It is one of the finest collections in the world
and represents over thirty years work.
When Ray, owner of the famous 'Plant World' in Devon, spoke to ashine, he realised that there was a golden opportunity to create a sub brand using his own name.
Ray is something of a celebrity when it comes to rare plants and unusual flower seeds and has featured many times on the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 Gardening programs as one of the UK's leading rare seed and plant specialists. He keeps himself extremely fit by maintaining his reputation as a champion marathon runner, ready for the next adventure into the unknown that could entail far distant travel or another deep rainforest expedition. To Ray, it's all part of the excitement in finding that rare specimen and delighting gardeners all over the world with his new finds.
…The history of plant collecting in remote places is rich with remarkable tales, but Ray Brown has probably scored a first by riding the wilderness trail in search of new and exciting species on top of a Russian amphibious tank…

Working with the client, ashine created the brief around Ray himself:
- to create a brand around Ray Brown that reflects his vast knowledge
and enthusiasm
- to design and construct a visually interesting, easy-to-use and efficient
e-commerce website
- to show off the product - most of the seeds listed on the website Ray
has harvested himself,
often in the most hostile of conditions,
deep in a jungle or high up a mountain
- for all the products to be found in Google using both botanical and common names as
search terms.
Ray was very pleased with the results. Today, 14 months after it launched,
the new website is attracting nearly 4000 visitors a month
and sales have
bloomed.
